Art in New Jersey-All About Color

  1. Artist Jim Gary -the Sculpture "Torso with a Rose" is work of art and has traveled around the world and won great acclaim. Tycoon, held Jim Gary's last exhibit prior to his death 2006 and purchased this artwork.
It was October 1976, "Ebony Magazine" did a feature on Artist Jim Gary- his native State of New Jersey ignored this brilliant artist-there was racial unrest, police profiling and a young Jim Gary had just turned 27 years old his love in his earliest years were his abstract sculpture. Jim Gary knew that he needed to create works of art that would go beyond the "Norm" thus came the Dinosaurs. Despite exhibits that traveled around from the East Coast to the West Coast including an Exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum.
The State of New Jersey turned it's back on probably their most famous Artist of Color to be politically correct in fact New Jersey in 1976 was a State that had not gotten over the riots of the late Sixties and Seventies and as of this date failed to acknowledge it's prejudice. Take a ride through Trenton and look at the failure that exists even today steps from the Capitol of Trenton and Governor Chris Christies front door.
If you would like to see this Sculpture and listen to Artist Jim Gary describe why it was so important to him follow the link below to a video I posted on YouTube, Tycoon
